Intro
Starting a blog is easy. Growing it with purpose is the real challenge. I built my blog as a student in Kathmandu with limited time, resources, and almost no traffic. Through digital strategy, I turned that simple site into something meaningful.
Description
I created my blog from the ground up with no money and no audience. What made the difference wasn’t luck it was digital strategy. This is how I applied real methods like SEO, content focus, and consistency to grow in a crowded space.
Whether you're a beginner or stuck at 20 views a day like I was, this post breaks down exactly what I did and what you can do too.

Summary
When I came to Kathmandu for my IT studies, I never imagined I’d one day be writing a blog that could potentially support my living. Like many students, I wanted to earn money in my free time. That’s when I started stha-anil.com.np, a personal blog that would become my digital lab my place to learn and apply the very skills I was studying in theory. But building a website was just step one. Growing it? That took strategy.
How do I start a blog from scratch?
To start a blog from scratch, you first need a domain name, a blogging platform like WordPress, and a clear purpose. I registered a free .np domain, installed WordPress, and focused on creating value for students and young professionals in Nepal.
The first thing I did was define what my blog was actually about. I didn’t want to write about everything. I focused on three themes: digital strategy, tech innovation, and blogging growth. This helped Google and readers understand what my blog stood for. It also made it easier for me to stay consistent. I planned a content calendar with weekly posts targeting questions I saw Nepali students and young professionals asking online.
What is a digital strategy for a blog?
A digital strategy for a blog is a plan to grow your online presence by using SEO, social sharing, internal linking, and smart content targeting. My strategy included topic research, keyword optimization, and building a consistent publishing habit.
Then came the backbone of my strategy: search engine optimization (SEO). I didn’t go deep into expensive tools I started with free ones like Google Trends, neilpatel, and answerthepublic. I chose topics with low competition but good search interest in Nepal. I also learned how to structure my blogs with headings, internal links, keyword usage, and engaging intros. One of my early posts a simple guide on how to start a blog in Nepal started pulling traffic slowly because I had optimized it properly.
How long does it take to grow blog traffic?
It usually takes 3 to 6 months of consistent posting, SEO, and promotion to see noticeable traffic growth. In my case, after writing over 15 focused blogs and sharing them regularly, I began to see daily traffic improve over time.
Another key piece of strategy? Internal linking. Every new post I publish connects to at least two older ones. For example, when I wrote about high-income skills for Nepali youth, I made sure to link it back to my blogging and freelancing guides. This not only keeps people longer on my site, but also helps search engines crawl my content better — improving my rankings without spending a single rupee.
Social media also played a role. I didn’t try to go viral. I simply shared each blog post on relevant Facebook groups, tech forums, and among student circles. Every 10 views counted and slowly, the 20 daily visitors turned into 40, then 60. Today, the blog isn’t huge, but it’s growing and most importantly, it’s growing with intention.
Starting a blog is exciting, but without a digital strategy, it’s like shouting into the void. By applying the basics of SEO, content planning, internal linking, and simple social sharing, I’ve managed to grow something that not only represents my skills but has real potential to generate income. If you’re where I was just starting out don’t aim for perfection. Just start with strategy.
